"My child, if sinners entice you, turn your back on them! They may say, "Come and join us. Let's hide and kill someone! Just for fun, let's ambush the innocent!
My child, don't go along with them! Stay far away from their paths."
Proverbs 1:10-11, 15 NLT
Who do you hang around with? Who do you follow in social media? Are they good influence? Are they men of God?
As I look around our country today, I see so many following the wrong influence. Seeking a life that leads to destruction. We must stop, turn from evil and seek the Savior's face. Jesus is the way, the only way.
We must follow His influence, we must do as He did. Love one another, treat each other with kindness and respect, help your neighbor. We must ALWAYS do the right thing.
Follow the man who saved us all, Jesus Christ. May He be your biggest influence!

At the Kitchen Table... is a simple blog about life, through its ups and downs and recently my journey to become closer to my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ as I study His word 'at the kitchen table.' Hope you enjoy my thoughts.

True knowledge...
"How then does a man gain the essence of wisdom? We cross the threshold of true knowledge when we live in obedient devotion to God. Stubborn know-it-alls will never stop to do this, for they scorn true wisdom and knowledge."
Proverbs 1:7 TPT
True knowledge, such a bold statement. Men for thousands of years have sought true knowledge. Solomon tells us in the opening statements of Proverbs, that true knowledge is gained when we "live in obedient devotion to God."
Such a simple truth. I know that when I am obedient to God that my focus, wisdom and knowledge is so much clearer. When I listen to my creator, I understand His creation. But when I am stubborn, my judgement is clouded.
Are you seeking true knowledge? Or are you being stubborn? Let's seek to gain the wisdom from our creator because He is God and I am not.

Explosive Power...
And I find that the strength of Christ's explosive power infuses me to conquer every difficulty."
Philippians 4:13 TPT
Tim Tebow wrote Phil 4:13 on his eye black when he played for Florida. Now I never saw Tim play a single game of football but I am a huge admirer of him and his Christian message.
I read this verse today and then I looked at a few other translations. The Passion Translation hit me, "Christ's explosive power" is infused in me. Christ helps me over come my difficulties.
When we are going through difficulties if we will call on Christ, he will provide us what we need to overcome. I have seen that in my own life, and when I finally turn things over to Christ, man what a change!!
There is a power inside you as a child of God, are you allowing that power to help you through your troubled times! If he can help in football He can help in what your going through.

Flip the switch...
"But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere—in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.""
Acts of the Apostles 1:8 NLT
I have a pressure washer that is a great tool. It has tons of power and pressure that helps me clean the things that I need to clean. But I can crank and pull on that thing all day long, and it won't start, until I flip this small red switch on the side, the power switch, then it cranks right up.
Sometimes I see Jesus and the Holy Spirit like that. Jesus is my savior 24/7, and He is there waiting to help me, but until I flip the switch, the Holy Spirit, I don't have the complete power of Jesus I need. The Holy Spirit allows us to be a powerful witness and show others the presence of God.
Have you allowed the Holy Spirit to work through you to share the gospel to other? If not, it's time to flip the switch!

Harvest time...
"So let's not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don't give up."
Galatians 6:9 NLT
Sometimes it feels like the other guy always wins. You know, the guy who cheats on his taxes or his wife, the guy who is lazy at work but takes credit for the teams accomplishments. That guy who treats others like a jerk but has the biggest house, truck, boat, etc.
But I have to say, doing what is right, all the time and consistently pays off in the end. God has a harvest of blessings waiting on his people.
So try to look past the surface and be a good example for "that guy", trust me; he notices and so do others. God has a harvest for you, but it may not be harvest time...yet.

Sand...
"But anyone who hears my teaching and doesn't obey it is foolish, like a person who builds a house on sand."
Matthew 7:26 NLT
Have you ever tried to build something in the sand or out of sand? Say at the beach, maybe a sand castle or you just stand on the sand by the water.
When the waves come you castle gets washed away. Or as you stand there your feet sink deeper and deeper.
Sand is not a good foundation, sand can be bad habits, sin, anger, greed, poor work habits. Sand leads to destruction.
Instead, remember the firm foundation we discussed the other day. Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self control, and our Savior: Jesus Christ. A life based upon those things will not fail!

What is your purpose?
"And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them."
Romans 8:28 NLT
Have you ever thought about what your purpose in life is? Not what you do for a career or a hobby that your really good at, but your purpose. What God put you on this earth for. Now for some people that purpose may be what they do as a career or hobby, but maybe not others.
Romans reminds us that everything works together for good when we love God and are called (or doing) His purpose for us. Love for Him and doing His purpose go together.
Are you called to serve, heal, teach, sit with the elderly, cook for a neighbor? It really doesn't matter what it is, but I pray you discover Gods purpose for your life and do it with His love. He promises to bless you when you do those things.

Becoming a new person...
"This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!"
2 Corinthians 5:17 NLT
How has your life changed since you accepted Christ? Has that old person moved out and a new person moved in?
Here is the thing, we must want to change and we must allow God to change us. We can be forgiven and still be a grump-butt, or a mean and nasty person to our co-workers and family. But if we truly live Christ we will want to change, we will allow Him to change us.
And yes, it is a progression sometimes, as my walk gets further along with Christ my attitude changes. My legacy that I am leaving changes. I hope that when I am gone, people will think back and say, he truly loved God.
How about you? Are you becoming a new person?
Comment and let us know how God has changed you.

Default plan...
"He must become greater and greater, and I must become less and less."
John 3:30 NLT
What do you default to when faced with a crisis in life? Is it anger, depression, maybe drugs or alcohol? Or is that foundation we talked about earlier this week set where you default to love and peace and let God take control.
As we go grow closer to Christ, He becomes more and more and we become less and less. I have seen, that my default has changed over the years, in my walk with Christ.
Does Christ come out when your in crisis? Are you working toward that goal?

He cares...
"It's impossible to please God apart from faith. And why? Because anyone who wants to approach God must believe both that he exists and that he cares enough to respond to those who seek him."
Hebrews 11:6 MSG
Studying a little about prayer this morning. Prayer is talking to our Heavenly Father. Sharing our thoughts, praises, needs, fears and questions. But is prayer alone enough?
The message version of Hebrews 11:6 tells us that as we approach God (prayer), we must also believe that 1, He exist and 2, that He cares enough to respond. Now, I know He exist, but sometimes the human side of me says, this situation is not important enough for God to care about. What kind of faith is that?
Your Heavenly Father cares greatly about your ever need! He wants you to believe that He does, He desperately wants a relationship with you, and just like earthly relationships, they are much better when you KNOW the other person cares about you!
Let Him know today that you love Him and believe that He loves and cares about you.

A solid foundation...
""Anyone who listens to my teaching and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock. Though the rain comes in torrents and the floodwaters rise and the winds beat against that house, it won't collapse because it is built on bedrock. But anyone who hears my teaching and doesn't obey it is foolish, like a person who builds a house on sand. When the rains and floods come and the winds beat against that house, it will collapse with a mighty crash.""
Matthew 7:24-27 NLT
Have you every built a house? If the foundation isn't right, nothing else works. Same goes with life, what is the foundation of your life?
Is it work, the news, some new fan-dangled world teaching? Or is it the teachings that have been passed down since the beginning of time. The teachings of our Lord and Savior!
If you have built your life on those teachings, you can face anything that life throws at you. Always default back to your foundation, Jesus Christ. He stands the rest of time.
What is your foundation built upon?

Anxiety...
"Don't worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God's peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus."
Philippians 4:6-7 NLT
Anxiety affects thousands of people daily. There was a season in my life where I let anxiety cripple me. A situation that I had no control over and feared with my worst thoughts. Satan had taken over my thought life and I had lost all control.
But control was never mine. God is in control. He is in control of every aspect of our lives. If we will just talk to Him, let Him know what we need and release control to Him, He will take care of it. He will send you peace.
As I prayed over a loved one this morning; God reminded me of His peace.
Are you trying to maintain control or are you letting your Heavenly Father guide you and give you peace? Give it to Him, trust me, it works better.

He watches over you..
"He will not let you stumble; the one who watches over you will not slumber. Indeed, he who watches over Israel never slumbers or sleeps. The Lord himself watches over you! The Lord stands beside you as your protective shade. The sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon at night. The Lord keeps you from all harm and watches over your life."
Psalms 121:3-7 NLT
Man, isn't that good news! As I woke up this morning I read this. The Lord himself watches over me! He never sleeps. He stands beside me, protecting me.
Like a parent who checks on their child when their sleeping. God loves you so much more than that. He keeps you from harm and watches over you.
Guys, I don't have a guardian angel, I have a guardian God. I want you to know that so do you. God is watching over you and protecting you.

A harvest is coming..
"So let's not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don't give up."
Galatians 6:9 NLT
Do you every wonder why you keep doing the right thing? No one notices, do they? Nobody cares that your doing what is right? Integrity is a rare quality these days. We very rarely get rewarded or noticed for doing the right thing.
The farmer works his fields diligently all year. Even when he sees no results, but he knows if he keeps doing what is right, that his blessings are coming.
God tells us not to give up. A harvest is coming. Eventually, they will notice and say: "I want what he has, I want to live a life of love, honesty and integrity. I want to know their God."
Keep pressing the course, Gods timing is not ours, a harvest is coming!

Comfort others...
"All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is our merciful Father and the source of all comfort. He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. When they are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us."
2 Corinthians 1:3-4 NLT
Have you ever been through a situation or a season in your life that made you think; "why did God allow me to go through this?" But because if His grace and mercy you made it through and You were better for it.
Then, maybe years later, a friend or colleague is going through the same thing. And you were able to help guide and comfort them through it. Maybe they weren't a believer but they saw God through your help.
God allows us to go through seasons in our life, so we can grow, depend on him and be stronger and better in the other side.
Use your life experience for Gods glory. Share your struggles and how God comforted you with others that may be going through the same thing. You may be the only love of God they might ever see.

Grace...
"God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can't take credit for this; it is a gift from God."
Ephesians 2:8 NLT
A definition of grace is: giving someone something that they do not deserve. God saved us by His grace, not because we deserved to be saved but because He loves us. It was a gift.
As a selfish human, we like to take credit for things, to make ourselves look good. It's human nature, but we cannot take credit for eternal life with the Father. There is nothing we could do, in this life, to deserve to live in His presence forever. But because He loves you so much, He invites you to do so.
So thank God for His gift today, and if you have not received it yet, let me know and I'll show you the best gift you could ever receive.

Forgive others...
"Make allowance for each other's faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others."
Colossians 3:13 NLT
"Forgive anyone who offends us"; that is a tough one. It's not really in the modern human nature to forgive. We tend to hold on to grudges. Lifelong relationships are thrown away because we chose not to forgive.
What if God chose not to forgive us? Our eternal future relies on the fact that He forgave us, that He died for us.
Not forgiving others can affect you mentally, emotionally and physically. Holding on to that un-forgiveness can change your life, it can affect you in so many ways.
God forgave you, who do you need to forgive today?

Always be humble...
"Always be humble and gentle. Be patient with each other, making allowance for each other's faults because of your love. Make every effort to keep yourselves united in the Spirit, binding yourselves together with peace."
Ephesians 4:2-3 NLT
Have you every been around a very arrogant and gruff person? A person that always calls outs the faults of others? Nobody likes to hang out with those people, you don't want to invite them over for dinner.
But the humble, gentle person that treats everyone with kindness and respect. We love working with those people or hanging out.
In the end, in every and all situations, love conquers all. How do you treat others? Throughout my life, I have been both, trust me, the humble, gentle person is a much more fulfilling life.

He provides all your needs..
"Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need."
Matthew 6:33 NLT
Wants vs needs, there is a huge difference there. There are a ton of things that I want, but I can honestly say I have everything that I need.
As Americans we have become accustomed to having all of our wants and are very privileged. I can't remember anywhere in his word that says he will provide all your wants, but earnestly seek Him and my God will always provided for your needs.
Have you sought His face today? Set some time aside for Him, I promise you won't be disappointed.

Fix your thoughts..
"And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise."
Philippians 4:8 NLT
So what do we fix our thoughts on? Social media, the news, gossip, pornography? Or do we fix our thoughts on praise, worship, God's word?
Remember what we fill our thoughts with will pour out into how we interact with the world. Will they see the negativity in us; or will they see God and love pour out of us?
Your days will be much better if you focus on God. Your interactions will be positive, your thoughts will be pure.

The end game...
"He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain. All these things are gone forever.""
Revelation 21:4 NLT
I woke up early this morning and couldn't sleep. I put on a little praise music and hit His word. Now I have read His word, cover to cover, and it is all wonderful news, but the back of the book, the end game...well it's AMAZING!!
Christ triumphant return!! The battle between good and evil! It's definitely a page turner, but SPOILER ALERT: we win!!
But as I think about my career, all the death and sorrow I have seen, all the pain and suffering, one verse hit me in Revelations 21:4. He will wipe every tear, there will be no more death and sorrow, no more crying, no more pain!!
This tattered old body with all my scars, all my afflictions will be made new! Man, What good news! I know my end game, my savior died for me, He will make me new.
What about you? Do you know your end game? Do you know my savior? If you don't or are not sure; I'd love to introduce you!
PM or comment if I can pray for you or with you in any way.

God is faithful...
"God will do this, for he is faithful to do what he says, and he has invited you into partnership with his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord."
1 Corinthians 1:9 NLT
Have you ever asked someone to do something, maybe at work or at home? And you come back later and it hasn't been done? Do you complain about it, do it yourself? But did you give them time to actually do it? Or did you want it done in your time?
The old joke goes "My wife asked me to clean the garage, she doesn't have to keep reminding me every six month."
Now that's an exaggeration, but you get my point.
Our God is faithful to do what He said He will. Now it won't be in our time, and He won't do it if we pick it back up and do it ourselves, and of course, we screw it up.
But keep the faith, keep praying, God will answer your prayers. They may not be the answers you want, but the answers will be for His will and for His good.

5 years
This picture was taken 5 years ago of J-man and Isaac. They were the two best buddies ever. They did everything together when Jayson was at Poppa's house. I am sure that Isaac misses Jayson as much as I do.

Your will, not mine...
"He went on a little farther and bowed with his face to the ground, praying, "My Father! If it is possible, let this cup of suffering be taken away from me. Yet I want your will to be done, not mine.""
Matthew 26:39 NLT
Sometime suffering is necessary, sometimes pain means healing. Sometimes, for a broken bone or an injury to heal we must do rehab, that rehabilitation is painful, but the result is great and worth it.
Christ was 100% God and 100% human, he did not want to suffer anymore than you or I. But he knew it was necessary.
You may be going through a hard time right now, you may be suffering, but as we discussed yesterday, God can and will use it for good if you allow Him. Rely upon your savior and let His will be done.
Be Blessed!

God intended it for good...
"You intended to harm me, but God intended it all for good. He brought me to this position so I could save the lives of many people."
Genesis 50:20 NLT
So you may be thinking, why did this happen to me? Why was I born with a heart defect? Why did my child die? Why has the corona virus attack?
Rest assured that God knew all these things were going to happen. Rest assured that none of these things surprised Him. God intended it all for good.
Now I don't claim to know all of God's ways, most days I question them. But I do know, that if you allow Him, whatever your going through, He will turn it for good.
Trust in His plan, and let Him work through you.
Be Blessed!

A little bit down today...
I had to head back to work tonight for an overtime night, this is normally my Sunday off during my work week, but they needed some help so Lynn and I picked up a shift until 3am. The money is worth it but I was not in the mood tonight to come back to work. I missed church this morning because I was sleeping and couldn't wake up. Trying to watching now at work, but I have been down and a little depressed since coming to work.
Work tonight seems very unfair, people's buddies get the easy assignment. Others don't have to do anything, some get to "float", which basically means to sit on your butt. Maybe I just have a crappy attitude tonight.
We have been in quarantine for over 40 days now. We have been wearing a mask for every patient encounter. It is hot and miserable.
Restaurants have been closed, which is Lynn and my favorite thing to do, go out to eat. I am tired of cooking. I have eaten more junk and my A1C is slowly rising because I am not eating right. Oh well, such is life.
But when I am down, I miss Jayson and William. I miss them like crazy. Four years is enough, I have prayed and prayed and done everything that I know to do. Everyone else in the family seems to feel the same, that it has gone on too long.
I look at pictures daily of Jayson and William. They are still little to me, but I know that they have grown, although I have not seen them in a very long time. I have missed so much in their lives, that I could never make up for it.
Sometimes God sends Jayson to me in my dreams, some times we get to play "choo-choo fix" or we get to watch "Paw Patrol". I miss him so much.
I know there is nothing I can do to change it, I can only hope one day that Jayson will forgive me for being gone so long.
I love you Jay-man!

Victory is ours...
"Can anything ever separate us from Christ's love? Does it mean he no longer loves us if we have trouble or calamity, or are persecuted, or hungry, or destitute, or in danger, or threatened with death? (As the Scriptures say, "For your sake we are killed every day; we are being slaughtered like sheep." ) No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us."
Romans 8:35-37 NLT
Through corona virus and quarantine do you feel separated from God? Now I'll be honest, I miss church, I miss seeing everyone. Online church is great but just not the same experience. But, I have not felt separated from God. I have had more time to reflect, study and just be still and listen.
Gods word tells us that nothing can separate us from Him. Christ loved us and died for us, so that we would never have to separated from our Heavenly Father again.
So if your feeling distant from God, trust in the fact that Christ made a way and guaranteed that all we have to do is call on His name. Take some time to draw close, to study, to listen to Gods voice. He is not gone, He has always been there waiting for you!
Be Blessed!

According to His plan...
"Furthermore, because we are united with Christ, we have received an inheritance from God, for he chose us in advance, and he makes everything work out according to his plan."
Ephesians 1:11 NLT
Don't miss the middle part of that verse, "He chose us in advance." God chose you, He knew you before the beginning of time. He also knew the troubles you would go through, the good and the bad. Somethings He allowed to happen, others He stopped and you never knew about them.
And lastly, He has a plan for you. He knows what your going through. Do you know that He is there for you? Waiting for you to turn to Him? Waiting for you to ask for advise or rely on Him?
But know this, weather it is a tough time or your on the mountain top, God has a purpose and everything will work out according to HIS plan. Trust in that!
